Top Ten Reasons Silly Bandz Shouldn't Be Banned In Schools

  Top-ten-reasons-silly-bandz-shouldnt-be-banned-in-schools
The biggest news story going right now is about schools banning Silly Bandz. Often the reason cited for schools banning Silly Bandz has been that they have created distractions in the classroom. However, one thing that has been ignored about Silly Bandz in most media reports is that there are just as many if not more schools that are using Silly Bandz to reward students or even selling them in school bookstores. Some schools even have special Silly Bandz trader days.

So for all the schools that have banned Silly Bandz, I have created a top ten list of reasons that they might want to reconsider their Silly Bandz bans.

Top Ten Reasons Not To Ban Silly Bandz In School

1. Silly Bandz are educational. Silly Bandz come in various shapes like alphabet and numbers that can help to teach kids.
2. Silly Bandz are a fashion accessory. Silly Bandz are worn as bracelets, and they help kids to express themselves.
3. Silly Bandz are a school supply. Rubber bands are a school supply item that can be used to keep things together. Banning Silly Bandz is like banning paper clips or erasers.
4. Because it teaches a bad lesson to punish all for the misdeeds of a few. Most kids behave with their Silly Bandz. Only a few kids misbehave with them. If someone breaks the law, should everybody be thrown in jail?
5. Silly Bandz can be used to reward students. Instead of banning Silly Bandz, schools can use Silly Bandz to encourage students for a job well done.
6. Because if schools ban Silly Bandz, kids will just find something else to collect and trade at school. Banning Silly Bandz is not solving a problem, just moving the problem to something else. Instead of banning, schools should just restrict trading Silly Bandz to recess.
7. Because banning Silly Bandz just makes kids want them more. If schools really want kids to stop going crazy over Silly Bandz, banning them is only going to have the opposite result and make kids want them even more.
8. Because Silly Bandz can be used for fundraising. Some smart schools have already figured out that selling Silly Bandz is a great way to help raise money for the school.
9. Because Silly Bandz teach kids how to negotiate. Trading Silly Bandz is part of a learning process that teaches kids how to trade and negotiate.
10. Because Silly Bandz can pay for college. The advertising from my blog and royalties from the Animal Bracelets I designed will help me to pay for college.

Yes, my school spirit shop sells Silly Bandz. 1 silly bandz is 35 cents. They have really rare ones too.

My mom's a teacher and when the kids wear them she's like ok thats fine, but if they take them off their wrists she takes them and throws them away.

Banning things makes children want them more.

I have a friend whose teacher is OK with kids wearing them but if they take them off she cuts them up.

Here's a silly alternative to wearing the bandz...

The author's point that prayer is still a powerful tool and suggest that even the kind of mindful prayer he outlines at the end can be messy, pleading and misguided...at least for those of us in transition.

I am very grateful for this article, as it is helping me on a path of turning back towards prayer, which I've long forsaken except in times of desperation.I remain religious and choose to live a worshipful life.
