Alabama newspapers continue to report on the Silly Bandz craze that has swept the state of Alabama and is now spreading out nationally. The North Jefferson News has an article entitled “Shaped arm bands take the region by storm.” The article starts by comparing animal shaped rubber bands to other popular toy trends like Garbage Pail Kids, Pokemon, Beanie Babies, and Webkinz.

The article talks about how animal rubber bands seem to be popular with everyone but school officials. One school principal, who has banned the rubber bands, also wishes she had come up with the idea first.

Several stores are mentioned that sell Silly Bandz. The owner of Lulu’s in Mt. Olive is quoted talking about how she has never seen anything so crazy in her life and that her store sold out of their first order of 119 pieces in two days.
